Learn How to Make Bread: Giveaway

Earlier this week I mentioned how food prices were rising but packages were shrinking. One way to avoid getting ripped off is by making food from scratch, a pound of flour is a pound of flour no matter how you package it.

breadclass.com
One of my favorite foods to make from scratch is bread. There is nothing better than a warm slice of bread fresh from the oven! Several years ago I invested in a grain mill and started grinding my own wheat in order to have fresh whole wheat flour. There is a huge difference between store bought whole wheat flour and fresh ground whole wheat flour, but I digress.

A few months ago I was asked to try BreadClass.com, an online class that teaches you everything you could ever want to know about making bread. Since my entire family is addicted to fresh bread I was excited to learn more about our favorite food. Even after making my own bread for 6 years I learned a lot from the class. The instructor, Lori, is a wonderful teacher. She explains everything clearly, and even someone who doesn’t know how to bake a potato will be making homemade bread after watching the lessons.

There are twelve lessons, each about 10 minutes long. In the beginning you will learn the anatomy of a grain of wheat and by the end of the class you will be making speciality loaves. Accompanying the class is the book No More Bricks. I thoroughly enjoyed going through this book and I learned  several new things about grain. My favorite part of the book is the section on the various grains. I loved learning about the history of grain and finally learned why Kamut, my personal favorite grain is so expensive! (It is a licensed product and distribution is limited)

The book contains four basic recipes for bread and then numerous variations. I love this book because it is well written, you aren’t wondering what the author means when they tell you to do something. It also has loads of pictures. As I said before, I’m a visual learner and No More Bricks is full of black and white photos to help you make that perfect loaf of bread. Anyone from a novice to a pro will learn something from this book. I now have several new recipes to try and a few new techniques.

If you are interested in learning how to make a better loaf of bread, I highly recommend  No More Bricks and BreadClass.com. Even if you have very little baking experience you will be able to make beautiful loaves of bread after watching a few lessons.

I have one BreadClass.com online class to give away and one copy of the No More Bricks ebook. To enter leave a comment sharing your favorite type of bread. My favorite is the basic honey wheat. Yum! Giveaway ends April 10, 2011.
