Menu Plan Week of August 10

My turn off the oven week went very well. It has now been 2 weeks since we used our oven. I can only hope our electric bill shows our efforts this month. The grilled pizza was a huge hit and has now found a spot in our weekly menu rotation.

This is a crazy week for our family. We have one birthday, a visit from my brother and his wife, and two extra kids for the weekend. I have a few carry over meals from last week, due to an abundance of leftovers and one day when I ended up in bed with chills and fever, then woke up the next morning feeling great….


Whole wheat pancakes, Oatmeal, Eggs and toast, Blender batter whole wheat waffles


Sandwiches, Fruit, Veggies, Yogurt, Cheese and crackers, Smoothies


Carry over from last week:

Lemon Pepper Chicken Legs: Dark meat chicken is a great way to add meat to a meal without adding to your grocery budget.

served with tossed salad, corn, and seasonal fruit, and birthday cake

  • 2/3 cup dry unsweetened lemonade mix
  • 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 1 (16 ounce) bottle Italian-style salad dressing
  • 3 pounds chicken legs
  • Remove skin from the chicken legs. Mix together marinade ingredients and marinate the chicken legs all day in the fridge. Grill chicken legs on low heat until thoroughly cooked. The chicken legs usually take about 45 minutes to an hour on the grill.

Simple Crock Pot Pork Roast: Buy a cheaper cut of meat to save money. I purchase boneless, but that is my preference.

  • 1 cup worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • Spray crock pot with nonstick spray. Place pork roast in crock pot. Add worcestershire sauce and brown sugar. Cook on low for 8 hours. Turn pork roast occasionally. For those of your with acute observation skills, yes, I do put my crock pot outside in the summer months to keep the house cooler.

  7. These look like really good recipes! Thanks so much for sharing. I haven’t used my oven all summer (since end of May) I hate using the oven because it heats up our whole house and the air conditioner has to work twice as hard to cool the house back down. So, I do believe it saves money to do more grilling outside. I even plug in my electric skillet outside and cook sometimes.
