If you shop at the commissary you probably know their prices change every two weeks. Not only do sales run on a two week basis, but many of their everyday low prices change as well. Each Monday I will be posting a bargain meal, created from current commissary deals.

Commissaries.com is a website that lists every item on sale at your local commissary. You have to be eligible to shop at the commissary and log in with your last name, social security number and birth date to view the sales. The best part of this site is that you can view your local manager specials which vary from store to store.

Military Shoppers is a site which publishes the commissary sale fliers every two weeks. It is a great way to get a quick look at the weekly specials.

Back in the day when my we were broke this meal was a staple in our home. It was cheap and easy to make. I would suggest adding a lot of veggies to make up for the processed meat. This meal can be made without using the oven for even more summertime savings.

Sausage and Rice

  • Eckrich smoked sausage $1.89
  • Mahattma yellow rice $0.70
  • Frozen Peas $0.89
  • Corn on the Cob $1 (4 ears)

Grill sausage. Cook rice according to package directions. Add peas to rice while the rice is cooking (this will cook the peas). Slice sausage and add it to the rice and peas. Grill or boil the corn and serve.

Total cost for 4 servings: $4.48

  1. This is an awesome recipe. We have 6 people in our family so I made it go farther by doubling the rice. Still just as good, and it is so fast and easy. Way to go!
