The Barbie Cake

I am way behind on emails, comments, and blogging today because I have been working on the Barbie cake. You can watch the tutorial here, this cake was really fun to make and not that difficult at all.

I get the hand cramp thing. I made a castle cake for my daughter’s birthday and couldn’t use my right hand for two days.

  2. Gorgeous!~

  3. That is truly amazing! You definitely have a gift…how long did it take you?

    • TheHappyHousewife says:

The cake took about 2 1/2 hours from start to finish, I did take breaks because the first coat of frosting had to set in the freezer.

  4. I knew it! It’s just perfect. I wish I had the patience to do it.

  5. It’s quite precious!

  6. She looks GREAT!

  7. Awesome!!!!

  8. It is georgeous!! 😀 Great job!!

  9. Southern Gal says:

I so had one of these cakes for my birthday!

  10. I had a Barbie cake once. It was every girl’s dream. Beautiful job, Toni!

  11. The cake looks wonderful! I’d better not show it to my almost 5-year old daughter though…:)

  12. It looks wonderful! I don’t think I could ever make something like that. I won’t have to, anyway, I only have boys, lol!

  13. That is gorgeous. Great job! It looks perfect. You wouldn’t even know that she was amputated.

  14. That’s beautiful! You did a really great job!

  15. I wonder if you can do this with boys, except with like G.I. Joe or something… can GI Joe wear a really big pair of pants??? Kidding!

This is very cute! You did a great job! All I have is boys, so I will never do a Barbie cake… **sniff, sniff…**

  16. I love making my kid’s birthday cakes & since C is *still* into princesses I can see this one being in my future!
    Looks wonderful!

  17. Wow!!! You got made cake decorating skillz!!! That is so cute!

  18. My Grandma used to make us Barbie Cakes! 🙂 Good memories 🙂 You did a great job!

(I am trying to be patient. I know you have a life, but you are killing me with the waiting on “the rest of the story”!! haha)

  19. Great Job!!!! I have a friend in PA who made her little girl a cake like that 2 years ago. So cool 🙂 Now.. maybe in a couple of years I can make one for MY LITTLE GIRL 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  20. It looks great! I have made some interesting cakes for my ds’s scout troop – a hamburger and a castle. Both very hard. And the castle cake was so messy looking in the end. Your barbie cake is gorgeous.

  21. So sweet!
My mom made one of these for me when I was little. Brings back memories….:)

  22. My grandma made that cake for me one! Aww .. You did a fantastic job – it looks perfect!!! 🙂

  23. The cake is gorgeous!! I wish I had a little girl to make one for!

  24. Aww, I made one of these for my daughters a long time ago!! There are so much fun!!

  25. GREAT cake!!!!! I bet your daughter was thrilled!

  26. OH MY GOODNESS!! I AM blown away. Trust me, the Barbie cakes I’m talking about never looked that fabulous. HOW fun. I am horrible with my kids’ cakes…lean towards a big cookie cake or my favorite (which came from procrastination) was buying a dozen Krispy Kreme, circling them/towering them on a plate, and then just putting good ole Betty Crocker frosting all over it. My boys loved it…I was saved from Worst Mom of the Year and it cracks me up now thinking about it. 🙂 Love this!

  27. I made one of these for my daughter’s birthday when she was 7 or 8, and your right it is super easy!

  28. That is incredible! What an awesome job!! I thought I did well making a cookie cake! How fun for your daughter!

  29. Gorgeous!!

  30. Your cake looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing your ideas and recipes.

Just a tip for anyone wanting to make this cake. If you have a large p.chef batter bowl you can cook your cake directly in that bowl and you will not have to cut the cakes as much and they will have a dome shape still.

  31. I want to try this but I want to know if my glass mixing bowl will break if I stick it in my oven? Do they have to be pyrex brand or does any old glass bowl work?

    • TheHappyHousewife says:

I baked the cake at 350 degrees in the mixing bowl. My brand is pyrex, which says on the bottom, “oven safe.” My only precaution would be to not put the bowl in while it is cold. Make sure it is room temp.
      Thanks for asking!

  32. My grandmother made me a cake like this nearly every year when I was a little girl. Needless to say, I ended up having a large collection of Barbie dolls.

  33. Suburbanstepmom says:

Beautiful cake! I may just try it for my daughters bday next year.

  34. Barbara C. says:
